BACKROOM DEALS AND RIGGED ELECTIONS, MORE OF THE SAME FROM KENNEY’S UCP
EDMONTON - Fake memberships, nominations for sale to the highest bidder, and envelopes full of cash. Shocking details from a recently released affidavit raise more questions about UCP leader Jason Kenney’s attempts to get around election rules and buy his way into power.
“If you’ve got cash in unmarked envelopes and a refusal to pay bills for supporters it really smacks of pretty sleazy politics,” said Brian Mason, NDP MLA for Edmonton Highlands Norwood. “We continue to see these types of corrupt practices linked to UCP nominations and it looks to outsiders that there is dirty dealing going on. Albertans deserve better than this from their political parties.”
This news comes after reports by high-profile UCP members and MLAs of everything from fraud in conservative nominations to Kenney paying his friend to run a “kamikaze” mission against fellow leadership contender Brian Jean.
These stories of fraud and collusion are deeply concerning and the NDP is urging the Office of the Election Commissioner and the RCMP to consider opening an immediate investigation into all these complaints.
