Kenney must explain minimum wage plan, 'modest level of human capital' comments

EDMONTON — At a campaign-style event organized by restaurant industry lobbyists, Jason Kenney seemed to throw his support behind their plan to lower the minimum wage for:

  • Young people
  • Workers who serve alcohol
  • Albertans living with disabilities

Kenney says he takes these recommendations to cut wages for vulnerable workers “very seriously”[1] and indicated he agrees that “young people and people of modest level of human capital”[2] should be paid less.

The UCP leader needs to come clean with hardworking Albertans about his plan for the minimum wage and explain which Albertans he was referring to as being “of modest level of human capital.”
