KENNEY NEEDS TO DUMP ISLAMOPHOBIC NOMINATION CANDIDATE
EDMONTON – Jason Kenney needs to put his words into action and dump UCP nomination candidate Del Shupenia, who is running for the UCP nomination in Edmonton-Highlands-Norwood and who often disparagingly comments publicly on Muslims and immigration.
Yesterday, AMPAC publicly asked the UCP why Mr. Shupenia is running for their party.1
Some of these comments include:
- Called for the end of immigration for Muslims to Canada - “This is why all immigration for Muslims must stop until reformation in the Church of Islam”2
- Disputed the notion of Islamophobia - “Islamophobia is a made up word”3
- Called a parliamentary motion, M-103, “Islamic bigotry”4
- Said most immigrants are a “drain on welfare and healthcare”5
The UCP did not remove Cindy Ross, Phil Shuman, Mark Mantei, or Sandra Kim after their comments were exposed. Jason Kenney should do the right thing and dump Del Shupenia from his party’s nomination.
